Vacation Bible School Via Children's Stories
Thank God for things like Vacation Bible School as they require God's people to be vessels for the creations of His hands in order to have educational material for the kids. Doing so provides for such a sweet sense of His presence, and as a writer makes four hours of writing seem like twenty minutes.
Joseph Zabrosky Nationwide Learning's first Visiting Author who wrote the ?Yeshua's Lessons in Life Series,? devoted to strengthening children's walks with Christ, and Christian Media Association's Director/Producer Chairperson. www.BestBooks4Children.com
Vacation Bible School was the furthest thing from my mind as God put on my heart a desire to write a series of children's stories that were like little Bible lessons for kids. His presence enveloped me, giving me every vision of the stories that became each and every word. Mountaintop experiences with the Lord typically lead to the adversary's attack, trying to steal everything God just promised. Consider the book of Exodus when Moses experiences God in the burning bush and is told to tell Pharao to free His beloved Israel from Egypt.
Makes writing stories for Vacation Bible School seem so small. Moses obeys God's command and Pharao makes the Israelite slaves? job twice as hard by making them gather their own straw before producing the same amount of bricks each day. The Israelites are bloodcurdling angry with Moses, and rightly so. He just made every slaves job twice as hard for the sake of obeying God, which will eventually lead to his people's freedom - a Bible lesson for kids that needs to be told.
The fall from my mountaintop experience with God to write stories for Vacation Bible School was nothing like Moses? fallout, but it did get dark. For years after writing these little Bible lessons for kids I asked what He wanted me to do with them. I contacted various publishers, and although there were some positive comments the standard response was that it doesn't work with their present roster. I kept praying and one day the call came in.
It was a Sunday school teacher in Cleveland who had read a couple of my Christian screenplays. Sunday school - Vacation Bible School - getting closer. Her fellow Sunday school teachers, some twenty-one of them, had just met and were discussing the lack of good Christian children's stories, thus having to read the same old stories to the kids every year. They wanted Bible lessons for kids in story format. I think you know the answer I provided to her problem, hence I sent my stories to her immediately.
I don't know if you've ever noticed the consistent use of the word 'suddenly? in the Bible before the move of God's hand. This was one of those suddenly-moments! Vacation Bible School children's stories was truly on the horizon.
She told me there wasn't a dry eye in the room after reading one of my stories to her fellow Sunday school teachers. They wanted three thousand books at $11.99 per book! They were serious about Bible lessons for kids, and were the catalyst to bringing the stories to Vacation Bible School. Talk about ?Suddenly!?
One year later the ?Yeshua's Lessons In Life Series? sat in my hands fresh off the printing press ready to strengthen children's walks with Christ. Of course, none of this would have come to past until He first strengthened my walk with Christ by leading me through this faith journey of using me to bring His stories to fruition. Vacation Bible School children's stories are a great way to provide an entertaining lesson, or to simply add luster to the VBS experience by making them available for casual reading at your next Vacation Bible School.
