Help with schooling

Carlton Baptist Church will hold its third annual school supply giveaway on Saturday.

This year's giveaway is being held in conjunction with vacation Bible school. The theme for this year's VBS is "King of the Jungle."

Children ages 3 to 12 are invited to the Bible school, which runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The school supply giveaway begins at 1 p.m.

Children are not required to attend VBS to receive supplies. For more information, call (706) 797-3509.



Covered dish delicacies

Gordon's Chapel United Methodist Church, 6655 Nowhere Road, Hull, will host a homecoming service at 11 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Robbie Lanford is the guest speaker. A covered-dish meal will follow the service.

Revival services will be held Sept. 12-15 with Dr. John Beyers as the speaker. Dinner will be served before the service at 6 p.m. each night of the revival.

A Carolina whooping

Comer country music singer Bobby Compton will play at the Country Rock in Athens this Friday, but after this performance he's off to South Carolina.

He has two concerts set for Aug. 13-14 at Carolina Nightlife & Grill in Darlington, one of the largest music venues in the Pee Dee region. Then he returns to Georgia for an Aug. 20 performance at Wing Slingers in Commerce.
